As self-titled “witches in britches,” we read texts through a feminist lens in order to engage critically with the world around us and do our part to help end patriarchal oppression–all while wearing comfortable pants, of course.

Our episodes are divided into the following segments:

“Are You a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?” (from The Wizard of Oz)

In our first segment, we discuss the representation of minorities and marginalized people in the text.

“Bald Heads and Queer Noses” (from The Witches)

In this segment, we focus on the text’s depiction of and attitudes toward bodies and sexuality.

“Round about the Cauldron Go” (from Macbeth)

In this segment, we consider the role of potions/ medicine in the text as well as the treatment of plants, nature, and the environment.

“Treguna, Makoidees, Trecorum, Satis, Dee!” (from Bedknobs and Broomsticks)

In this segment, we discuss the text’s treatment of spirituality and (female) creation.

Final Spells

We conclude with some final thoughts and general hilarity.

Note: While we do have some witchy sensibilities, we do not practice witchcraft or Wicca. (You can learn more about what witches and pagans believe here.)  Rather, by calling ourselves witches, we are hoping to participate in the feminist reclamation of a term that has been used throughout history to vilify and injure countless women, and other marginalized people, who did not conform to societal expectations.
